I am Dr. Micah J. Dobson, an Assistant Professor of Sport Management, researcher, and leader operating at the intersection of sport sociology, inclusive pedagogy, and global governance. I began my academic journey at Elizabeth City State University, earning my Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management Administration, and later completed a Master’s in Parks, Recreation, Tourism, and Sport Management at North Carolina State University. I earned my Ph.D. in Sport Management from Northcentral University, where my doctoral research investigated after-school sport and recreational programming for at-risk youth.
Currently, I serve as a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Sport Management at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC. My research program focuses on how policy, governance, and urban planning intersect with community sport, and is defined by several core pillars:
Beyond research, my career is defined by a deep commitment to student mentorship, designing engaging online and face-to-face curricula, and establishing strategic community athletic partnerships.
